Feels rushed as hell like it got cancelled and had to skip over to conclusions quick.
This actually makes me look forward to Kyoto Animation's movie adaptation more because it reduces the problem of adapting a series to a single movie. |

Same feeling here. A terrible ending for a really nice and well-paced manga, because of this. It's like a Gantz-like conclusion all over again, but not as long and as slow through the final volumes. |

Heh. Finished reading this the other week & already forgot how it ended. I did think what happened after first screening their school project film felt like an argument for argument's sake type of thing. Perhaps the author decided they couldn't cut the story down to fit 6 volumes so had to pad it out to fill 7. That said, even the production of the film followed a rather trite formula. I'm sure the KyoAni film will have rising ochestral music playing during the film screening as Shouko's glistening eyes widen & Shoya's inner monologue goes into overdrive.

I couldn't ever get into this series Shoya was so unlikeable in the beginning that I could not continue reading it after the first few chapters. Sorry to hear the ending felt rushed for those that kept with it I.

Placing things in spoilers, just in case...
I actually really liked the ending, although I wish we could've seen more in terms of developing Shoya and Shoko's relationship. spoiler[We already know that Shoko loves Shoya, but I would've loved to see the same from his side of the spectrum. That being said, the last few pages showing the two of them holding hands and entering the room where their elementary school class was gathering was a nice way to end things.] I'd love to see a one-shot volume in the future exploring what may have happened during that gathering and perhaps jumping ahead a few years to explore the characters' lives as they are at that point. |

It was not either rushed or cancelled! The reviewer's complaint here is the reverse in that the end drags through some final unnecessary drama before tailing off in a soft landing and it could have done with being more focused. I'd have to agree with that. Some people were wanting more of definite romance between Shoya and Nishimiya but personally I think that would have been very off putting. "A Silent Voice" is not really a romance. It's a story about bullying told from the point of view of the bully as well as a story of redemption. Anyway it's clear that spoiler[Shoya and Nishimiya are a couple at the end!] |

Actually I loved A Silent Voice's 7th volume. I think the series began losing its brilliance gradually after the 2nd vol. and with it's last volume it came back with all that made a Silent Voice so good at the beginning mostly because it's the most realistic and empathetic part of the story.
The whole idea of the group making a movie has been bothering me since the begining. It's a tipical teenage dream that usualy never comes to life and when it does, It has a very tipical.. awkwardness to it.. but in the end we see that Oima Is perfeclty aware of that and the screening scene is one of the most endearing things on the story. The movie is awkward and kinda silly but we see it through the eyes of Shoya and what it mens to him, it's beautiful as act of friendship.. altough a bit weak as a movie which leads to the hilarious and 100% accurate moment where Tomohiro and the rest of the crew is completly demolished by the critic X) The way the critic gazes, the things he says and how he dresses. Oima captured Perfectly the tipical egocentric art critic and that took me back.. That sensation of being crushed by a cocky a**hole is something every art student goes through x) |
