Anime-Inspired Footwear Launched by Vans Highland and Size
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The British footwear retailer Size has lauched a limited edition shoe which is an anime-inspired version of the Vans Highland skatewear brand.
The shoe is called the ‘Yukiko’ (or ゆきこ in Japanese) Highland shoe. According to the Size blog, the shoe "draws influence from the colourful hues found at cosplay events around the globe."
The Yukiko is described as honouring two trends of the 1960s; the rise of the Vans brand itself in California, and the rise of the first Astro Boy anime series and other early anime imports in America. According to Size, Yukiko has "an anime-inspired silhouette that fuses the two creative forces into one colourful design."
The shoes themselves are described as having "low-profile uppers cut from navy suede, offset by pops of patent pink leather to the midfoot side stripe... tooled up with a cushioned exposed foam tongue for a deconstructed aesthetic."
The Yukiko went on sale on Friday March 8, and can be found at Size stores and through the Size previews app.
