IMAGI's Astro Boy Ranks #9 BD, #7 Overall in 1st U.S. Week

During its first week of sales, IMAGI's computer-animated adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy manga ranked #9 in Blu-ray Disc sales and #7 in overall sales in the United States for the week ending on March 21. 14% of the total unit sales of Astro Boy were Blu-ray. The film also ranked at #18 in video rentals for the week. According to Rentrak Corporation, the film did not rank in the top 10 for DVD sales. According to Box Office Mojo, Astro Boy earned US$19,551,067 in the United States and US$38,353,697 worldwide at the box office. IMAGI had a reported production budget for the movie of US$65 million.
Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's Ponyo film, which ranked at #9 on Blu-ray and #10 overall last week, fell from all charts during its third week of sales.
