The website also announced on Friday that the staff of the musical will also hold a screening of the filmed performance of the 2013 musical Kyo kara Maoh!: Maō Tanjō-hen on July 29 at the ninth floor of the Animate Ikebukuro Head Office. Kentarō Kanesaki, Yūta Higuchi, Gaku Shindo, and Taishi Sugie will attend the screening.
The musical will run in Tokyo's Space Zero from October 1 to October 12. Tickets for the performances went on sale on April 29.
As with the 2013 play, the new play will be directed by Shintarō Sugano, who will also write the scripts. Yoshizumi will write the music.
The story of the original novels revolves around Yuri Shibuya, who was sent to a fantasy world after being dunked in a toilet. There, he is told that he is destined to be the next demon king, as his hair and eyes are black. Although Yuri is quite the believer in peace and is against violence, the country he has arrived in is on the brink of war.
Geneon Entertainment Inc. licensed the anime, and released it until it ceased all business in North America. Funimation rescued the license and distributed the anime once again in North America, although the company's license for the series expired in 2011. Tomo Takabayashi began the light novel series with illustrations by Temari Matsumoto in 2000, and the series is still ongoing.
